One of the primary obstacles facing any new initiative is the daunting “how-to” questions from those trying to implement a new idea. The Campaign has identified pilot programs across the country to work with and replicate, and is publishing successful children’s food and environmental health initiatives to educate others on how to do the same—stories like the initiative in Olympia, WA, where five elementary schools have provided organic food and paid for it by removing deserts from the menus, or like the Los Angeles School District that has successfully banned sugar-filled products from their vending machines. >>Read about all these exciting programs!
Consumers who shop in health food stores provide a ready-made grassroots base and a powerful opportunity to engage thousands of concerned citizens in local activities on this critical national issue. Therefore,200,000 copies of the Action Guideare being distributed through natural health food & grocery stores, targeted media sources and the holistic health practitioner communities. Contact us if you are or know of a retail store or practitioner who would like to hand out this valuable guide!
As part of this process, we are interviewing and surveying project leaders to discover important lessons and necessary conditions for action. These results are being published in the Action Guide, on our website, and will be made widely available to individuals organizing through local Food Action Community Teams.
The Campaign will also ally with Citizens for Health to promote health friendly legislative priorities, like the Farm to Cafeteria Act that pairs local farmers with community school districts. In addition, the initiative will help educate children on health issues—one of the best ways to create lasting change.
