I have used some of the ideas from yoga class in my classroom. I ask them to stop between activities, to slow down and take a deep breath. It helps us to have a calm classroom," said Gilliam Bazelon, 2nd grade teacher.

The Aspen Center for Integrative Health is helping bring the benefits of yoga to children, parents and teachers.

Yoga Ed. is a nationally recognized educational program and curriculum that combines the practice of yoga with an active, playful and scientific exploration of the body, mind and self. Yoga Ed. enhances focus, concentration, learning, readiness, stress reduction, behavioral skills, physical health and emotional stability in children.

The Yoga Ed. K- 8 Program is a comprehensive and educationally integrated 36-week curriculum for three developmental levels-grades K - 2, 3 - 5, and 6 - 8. Lesson plans are designed to engage the whole child and speak to multiple intelligences. Yoga ED. meets the California, Colorado and National Physical Education Standards.

The Yoga Ed. Program in Aspen is facilitated and supported by the Aspen Center for Integrative Health which trains professional yoga teachers and classroom teachers to implement the program in Roaring Fork Valley, Colorado schools.
