Thanks to actions taken by thousands of natural health consumers across the country, Citizens for Health’s first informative issue briefing for Members of Congress and their staff was an incredible success! Over 23,000 consumers sent letters to their Representatives and Senators through the CFH Health Action Center and encouraged them to attend the Herbal Alternatives Congressional briefing.
On Thursday, June 17th, Citizens for Health and co-sponsor NOW Foods hosted Dr. James Duke, the nation’s top herbal expert and 30-year USDA veteran, to present scientific evidence to Congress on the 2000-year-old safety record supporting use of botanicals. Nearly 120 Congressional staffers attended, several carrying letters from their constituents, explaining to the Citizens for Health staff that they received volumes of letters requesting their presence at the briefing. A number of Congressional staffers commented that the Herbal Alternatives briefing was one the most impressive Congressional issue briefings they had ever attended, and several political veterans were truly amazed at the remarkable turnout.
The tremendous turnout at the Herbal Alternatives briefing was purely driven by the on-line activists of Citizens for Health and the Campaign for Better Health—the grassroots base of the natural health movement.
