Dietary Changes Helped Change Health Problems

Name:
Ann Rowley

Story:

I am a 72 year old with a history of high blood pressure for the past 6-8 years. I have been under the care of some fine doctors (MD's) at St. Vincent's hospital in Portland, OR, which is my home. In dealing with my blood pressure, I was prescribed several combinations, but I never really got to a satisfactory level, nor were these drugs satisfactory in the way I felt. My energy level was very low. The standard ideas were to lose weight, as I was about 50 lbs. overweight and to exercise more. I tried many different diet plans, but nothing really worked for as long as it should...I would level off and be "stuck" at a given weight, still too high, and the blood pressure was also too high. I was not feeling all that well, also.

I was on 5 blood presure drugs, when last October, when we moved to Ukiah, CA., on a temporary assignment for my husband, I began seeing Dr. Robert J. Rowen, MD, who is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Johns Hopkins University and University of California San Francisco. He first addressed my weight problem, and suggested that I eat raw vegetables and raw fruits, white poultry..turkey and chicken breast meat, egg, grass-fed beef, wild, natural, ocean fish...not farm raised, nuts and stay off of sugar, and grains. Grains turn to sugar and that is what puts the weight on us.

I have followed this regime closely, and he also suggested some food supplements that will help with lowering blood pressure, will protect me from blood clots, and generally improve my overall health. I was on 5 blood pressure drugs when I went to Dr. Rowen and now after carefully monitoring my over-all health, I am on only one blood pressure drug. I have a great deal more energy and I am feeling a whole lot better.  I have lost 25 lbs. on the program he suggested. Most everything I eat is in as natural state as it can be.  I have never been a "junk food" person, but it is the vegetables, fruits, and good meats and seafoods that are helping me get the weight off. I do exercise some, and I am feeling more like exercising, due to getting off the drugs and on to the food supplements that protect my health.

Two years ago, while on vacation, I went to the Whitake Wellness Clinic because of my high blood pressure had gone even higher. After extensive testing, the new C-Reactive Protein test showed I was at a high risk of having a stroke or a heart attack. They suggested taking a German enzyme, used in Germany for many years, called Wobenzyme. I began taking it and have continued to this day. When Dr. Rowen did the C-Reactive Pro- tein test l8 months later, my test showed I was at normal range.

I beg the law makers and the decision makers to make it easier for us to get the help we need from Doctors who have a nutritional approach. If I had not been tested for the C-Reactive Protein and had a Dr. who recommended a product that would lower the C-Reactive Protein, I am not sure I would be alive today. And if I had not found Dr. Robert J. Rowen when I did, I am not sure about the condition of my overall health. I hardly had enough stamina and strength to walk across a parking lot !!!! One of my concerns is that traditional MD's are not doing the complete testing that ought to be done. I found out in the testing that Dr. Rowen did that my blood was too thick, so I am taking a supplement to thin my blood...NOT an asprin, either.  My St. Vincent's MD would not order a C-Reactive Protein Test as a follow-up to the original test, to see if the Wobenzyme was effective. She said, "I wouldn't know what to do with the information, if I did get the results." Well, as a good Dr. in a very well-respected medical facility, she had better be finding out. One of the things that "bugs" me is the common phrase, "Oh, that hasn't been tested!!" Well, there are many, many FINE institutions that are doing testing just as accurately as the FDA and the AMA. I just wonder how much money could be SAVED and lives improved if a nutritional approach to medicine would be seriously implemented. I am paying out of pocket to see the Dr. that is giving me the help I have needed for so long. This is long, I know, but MY life has been saved and others should be, also !!!!!!
