Name:
John E. McArdle
Location:
Riverwoods, Illinois
Story:
I was diagnosed with advanced, stage 3 and 1/2 prostate cancer 12 years ago. (The tumor involved 80% of the prostate gland and had "penetrated the gland wall and invaded nearby soft tissue".) Luckily there was no evidence of cancer spred in the lymph or bone. Radical prostate surgery plus radiation caused the doctors to say, "We got all the tumor, but not all the cancer cells. ... we can put the cancer into remission, Mr. McArdle, but we can not cure it. The cancer will reactivate in time".
I was put on lupron to starve the cancer of testoterone. Doctors at Chicago's Rush/Prespretarian hospital where the diagnosis and surgery were undertaken gave me 4 to 5 years. My son insisted on a trip to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. After extrensive tumor and DNA evaluation Mayo suggested a survival rate of 7 to 8 years. Within a year of surgery (after personal research) I added the following to the "standard medical treatment" initiated by my doctors ... (1) Lane Labs MGN-3, to strengthen the imune system (2) Dr. Whitacre's "Forward Plus" multi-nutrient daily supplement (3) extra vitamine C and E plus (4) weekly allergy shots and a vitamine B-12 injection (Primarily to protrect against grand child born colds) Doctors added Fosamax several years ago to counter the bone thinning side effect of Lupron.
Having survived prostate cancer more than TWICE as long as the medical team that diagnosed and removed the cancer ... I feel VERY strongly that the herbal and vitamine component of my treatment has been an ESSENTIAL addition to the "standard medical" approach and has made a CRITICAL contribution to the fact that I am still alive and able to function (except for impotence) very well for a 76 year old man. DO NOT limit my ability to buy and use the above herbs and vitamins. If you do, I firmly request (under pain of a potential law suit) that you give me adequate time to purchase a substantial inventory of each of the above vitamines, herbs and nutrients befor any limitting legislation is passed.
